[ so the thing was, Makoto didn't get sick. It took a series of unfortunate events, a moment of stress-induced weakness, and doing the idiotically chivalrous thing of trying to make her way home in the pouring rain and likely spending too much time in soaked clothing, despite Kise's best efforts.

But the point was, Makoto didn't usually get sick, and when she did get sick, it had to be sick enough to buckle her knees and keep her under her covers with a fever that could warm cold palms in an instant. She'd tried to go to work, but hadn't made it further than her own doorway before she'd gotten too dizzy to stand without the aid of the frame and had been promptly ushered back to bed.

And of course, she hadn't wanted to worry Kise, but that had backfired and for some inexplicable reason, she felt worse than ever. She'd have to change the compress again, she thinks distantly, as she tries to push herself up on her elbows to give him a properly chastising look. At the very least, her parents were now out for one of her dad's races, but... ]

You... really didn't have to come.

[ what if she's contagious? It's bad enough that she feels awful and she's sweaty and her hair's a mess and her face is all red and this isn't very romantic at all-- ]

[ she peels back a blanket, moving the rest so he can at least get a little bit of airflow. ]

Well, I'm pretty sure you were hallucinating... I was just about to call the hospital.

I wouldn't lie-- especially not about something like that! You really had me worried!

Just, he can't remember what he was hallucinating about. It sounds melodramatic too.]

If you're still feeling awful, maybe it's better to take you to go see a doctor. I don't know when your parents will be back, but...

[Of course he still feels awful. Awful and gross. But the idea of going out only adds queasiness to his fatigue.

He really doesn't need that.]

They said they'd be late but-- [WATER] you can call them.

I will... if nothing else, they'll know how the situation's going, and I can stay here until they're back.

[ leaving him alone isn't an option. ]

[He has no idea what time it is, but it feels like it's been forever since she first came over.]

No way! I'm sure I'm right where I'm supposed to be, anyway.

[She's much more useful than he was? In fact, her assurance that she won't leave him alone even after calling his parents comforts him way more than she could ever know.

It's certainly enough to make him want to cry. But he's not going to cry!!! He already threw up, he's not going to add crying to that list.]

Who could leave you alone? [ she laughs, a little helplessly, as she reaches out to run a finger down his cheek. ] If you need anything, I'll be right here, Ryouta-kun.

[ no, she'd like him to stop coughing, drink your water!! And she should ask him for his parents' numbers, but she'd like him to be able to breathe first.

Which means he should probably tone down the enthusiasm, which means leaning in to kiss his forehead should.... help...? ]

I'm really happy that you're really happy, but you can focus on feeling better now.

[Welp, and he's not even hallucinating anymore.]

[Yes that is the proof of true love: kissing your boyfriend even though he's running a fever, sweaty, and threw up not too long ago.]

[ her entire expression softens, and if kissing him wouldn't be a bad idea, she definitely would. The forehead's all she can do right now, but she keeps one hand on his cheek, like she can draw the heat away through contact alone. ]

I said it before, didn't I? I want to be there for the bad things, too-- being sick or having off days isn't going to make me care about you any less. If anything, it just makes me want to be stronger for you!

[Sob, now he has to lie here feeling fuzzy and weak but touched because Makocchi's so good to him he's so happy he could die.]

[Unfortunately these things won't come out nearly as easily when he's feeling better. Ah well, something to dream about.

Still, it's a good thing he's too sick to realize how much more whiny and embarrassing he's being. If he did, he'd either lay it on even thicker or never stop talking. Oh wait, isn't that the same thing?]

I want to be-- [This is the cough that never ends.] I want to-- [It just goes on and on again.

Yeah he's going to try to breathe first.]

[ she bites her lip, worrying it between her teeth as she reaches out to steady him through the fit. He's likely still not feeling up to medicine, but coughing himself mute doesn't sound like the nicest way for this flu to progress. ]

Maybe it's better if you don't talk for awhile.

I-- [He winces, because this time it hurt to talk. He tries again but the result's the same and he'd be frustrated if he wasn't feeling awful in general.]
