[It's probably going to be a long unsolved mystery as to how Korra ended up in Kirkwall. She's not sure if had something to do with her usually untapped connection with past Avatars and the Spirit World, but otherwise she's found herself in a completely different world where there are not benders, but people called mages who can control elements like her (but not really bend) but their abilities are called "magic."

A scuffle in Lowtown against some thieves and the display of her bending abilities had men and women in metal armor and swords -they were called Templars- lead... or rather forced her into a place called the Gallows. The name didn't bode well. Republic City had its problems, but this Kirkwall. The Avatar's only seen a few things that the city had to offer, but they just weren't pleasant whatsoever.

Maybe it's not so bad she's here though. Naga must have caught something awful because her animal guide isn't feeling quite well. She's told that because of her strange "magic" she needs to meet someone important? Right now, she and Naga are outside and she's comforting her tired out friend.]

Are you holding out okay girl? It seems bad now, but I think we'll be okay! They said that this Enchanter guy can help you out!

[Korra looks around, noticing that there's still a few Templars nearby keeping an eye on her.]

If he can't help, I don't think anyone else will.

[ He'd like to go one day- one day- without Meredith bursting into his office with bizarre claims. Now here she is going on about some mage girl they found in Lowtown with a strange beast, and stranger yet, an immunity to the Templars' abilities. Well, at least she wasn't going on blood magic this time, thank the Maker for small favors, though he's sure she suspects as much.

He's supposed to deal with her, in any case. It's a small wonder she's not dead, but he supposes this girl has Meredith's desire to find and remove any chink in her Templars' armor to thank for her survival.

He pauses at the foot of the stairs, staring for a bewildered moment into the small holding cell where they put the girl and her animal. What... is that? Only a moment, though, and then the First Enchanter clears his throat. ]

I apologize- you can't have met with a good welcome to end up down here.

[DON'T STARE AT THE EARS, DON'T STARE AT THE EARS. An... elf, that's it! Apparently there was quite a number of them in this world, but they weren't treated equally compared to humans as far as Korra could tell. But it looks like this one was important. She stands up while Naga lifts her head at Orsino.]

Hey! You're the First Enchanter guy? Orsino right?

And it's okay! I think it's a little better than just wandering around the streets and having Naga scare everyone.

[ He nods- yes, he's Orsino- though he can't help but watch Naga for a bit while he begins speaking. ]

Still, the Templars often leave a lot to be desired. [ His eyes flick back to Korra, and he looks truly sympathetic ] You even have the Knight Commander demanding answers, and I fear it's only because of that that she's allowed you to live.

You must have caused quite the scene.

[ He glances again at Naga ] Is this Naga?

[Naga looks okay outwardly, but she just looks tired, maybe a bit dirty. Probably just worn out from the city itself. Korra seems to be keeping her spirits up even after this whole ordeal]

You mean Meredith? She kind of reminds me of someone I know. [Korra grins a bit cheekily, thinking of Lin.] In fact, this whole scenario is kind of familiar in some ways. I arrive in a city I'm not familiar with, I see some people who are obviously criminals, I try to help out and teach them a lesson, and now I'm thrown into the equivalent of a jail. Weird. [~~Episode one man, episode one~~]

And yes, this is Naga. She's a polar bear dog! [Rubbing her head lovingly]

You should know better than to flaunt your magic in a public place. There are very, very few who can get away with that. [ Namely the Champion and friends, but there are... circumstances. ]

... I confess, I've never seen an animal like that before. Where are you from?

[And automatically since she said this multiple times to Meredith and the other templars] It's not magic, it's bending. I'm a bender.

As for where we're from, definitely from nowhere near here. Naga and I are technically from the South Pole and I'm from the Water Tribe.

Look, I'll answer your questions, but can you take a look at Naga first? I heard that you know some healing "magic." I know how to heal using water, but the templars aren't getting me any. They think I'm going to use it against them and I already had a hard time convincing them that I won't be a hostile while I'm here. [Because she can't really use earth and firebending without seemingly being hostile]

Bending? I-- Meredith claims it was magic, and as much as I hate to agree with her, I've yet to hear of someone who isn't a mage throwing fire. If what you say is true, it's going to be very hard for a lot of people to grasp.

... Which is, I suppose, why I'm here.

[ He glances at her Templar guards, and barks an order to let her out of the cell. After a bit of hesitation, they comply. ]

You have me at a disadvantage, child. I've yet to learn your name.

Oh, sorry! I'm Korra. [And I'm the Avatar! No, wait that's... another cat that she'll have to keep in the bag for now because she's already enough of an anomaly as it is already.]

And, well I guess you can call it magic... sort of, but it's known as bending where I'm from. And benders don't use staffs. [Gestures to the one on his back] Usually a bender controls just one element.

... So in that regard, I definitely have a lot to explain don't I?

Yes, I would say you do. I was hoping we could talk somewhere that feels... less like a prison, if only slightly. Naga is welcome to join us, of course.

I think we'd both like that. I'd like to keep her close by anyways, at least put her somewhere where she's comfortable.

Some fresh air will do you both some good. There is a courtyard where we may speak privately.

[ He motions her up the stairs- after you. Though her small contingent of Templars follow, Orsino glares at them enough that they keep their distance. ]

[She follows after the First Enchanter and glances at the Templars, recognizing one or two of them that pointed swords at her. Korra's pretty sure they tried to thrust one at her gut. At least before she anticipated the attack and tripped them when she made some earth jut up from beneath their feet.]

[YEAH THAT'S RIGHT SHE REMEMBERS YOU GUYS, YES SHE HAS THE GALL TO MAKE A FACE AND GESTURE before quickly turning back to face Orsino with Naga staying by her side.

[ Pfft, he saw that, and has to cover a chuckle ]

Do not press your luck, my friend.

[ And away they go into a courtyard! Night has fallen, but the moon is large and bright, giving them more then enough light to see by. There's a stone bench in one corner, which is where he leads her. ]

I can't promise I'll try not to.

[Korra sits down with a sigh while Naga wanders around, sniffing the ground before returning to her side]

So, where do you want to start?

You're going to be a handful already, I can tell.

[ Orsino takes a seat as well, setting his staff somewhere within easy reach ]

How you came to be here seems like as good a place as any.

[She shrugs]

Well, I can't really remember how. Honestly, it's beyond me because I remember it was snowing in the mountains and Naga just found me. I passed out while riding her.

I was in some trouble before that actually. Long story short, I was kidnapped, put into a metal box, and I barely escaped.

From one cell straight to another, it seems.

... I'm hard-pressed to figure out where you could have come from that it was snowing, even in the mountains. [ This isn't cold-ass Ferelden- and it's summer time to boot. ] You must be quite a long way from home.

It's unintentional, I swear.

Well, I was somewhere outside of Republic City. I doubt you've heard of that place too. [She asked around and of course no one knew 8(

She pauses before speaking up again]

Are they really going to make me stay here? I have important business to take care of back there and my friends and Tenzin will be worried about me. I won't cause anymore trouble, I just need to find a way back.

... If you truly are a mage, then I'm afraid you have little choice in the matter. Meredith very rarely tolerates apostates in her city. [ coughANDERScough- he and Merrill's ties to the Champion are the only things keeping Meredith from swooping in. ~~Swooping is bad.~~

He's quiet for a beat, and when he does speak again, he's lowered his voice. ]

But, if what you say is true and you're not a mage, you are out of both of our jurisdictions. So perhaps you should explain this "bending" of yours.

Meredith looks and sounds like a person who would like to shut down someone for being able to spray mist. I don't think she likes me either way.

Okay, so how to explain bending, how to explain bending... well first off, it's controlling or manipulating the elements around you. For instance, I can't make water appear out of nowhere. There has to be a source of liquid for me to control. Firebending looks like magic, but it can come from internal heat and external flames. Earth... [She grins and taps her foot on the clearly earthen/stone ground making one of the Templars twitch nearby]

It's almost all around us with some exceptions. That's the gist of it. Oh, and almost forgot air. Well, that's just something available 24/7.

I doubt she does- you bested her Templars, after all- but I hope she wouldn't blame me for not trying to force a non-mage into the Circle.

[ A hollow hope, because letting Korra go is sure to earn him Meredith's wrath no matter what. He's still not totally convinced she's not a mage himself, but he's at least willing to hear her out. ]

How is it that one becomes a... bender? Is it a learned or inherited ability? Where do you draw your power from? The Fade, or something different?

She's that hard on you guys huh? [Somewhere in the back of her head, Korra wonders if this is what it would be like if the Equalists were to get their way if they couldn't take away bending. She only thinks about it briefly though.]

You have to be born with it and that's if you have family with bending somewhere in the lineage. And like I mentioned before, most people are born with the ability to control only one element. I'll just leave myself out of this because I'm different for certain reasons.

[She tries to think hard about how to explain where bending came from] Each bending culture learned how to bend from different sources of nature associated with each element. That... is also a long story. But it's physical as well as spiritual.

I could show you some of the martial arts associated with each element if you'd like; without all the jazz though just in case.

She is... very dedicated. [ That's code for "yes". It's been getting harder and harder lately for him and his people. ]

Actually, I think you should probably not leave yourself out. It's your freedom on the line, after all. If I'm to prove you are not a mage, I will need every piece of information I can get.

A demonstration can come later, but right now, try to explain everything to me as best you can.
