[ This is an apartment. It's a fairly small apartment- even for someone on Jacob's salary, but it suits him. Every thing is practical and neat- if a little dark. Dear Jake has a fondness for dark wood when it comes to furniture- and perfect.

Except for the part where there's a 200-pound wolf sprawled on the bed like he owns it. The fedora is hanging from one of the bedposts, for want of a proper hat rack.

Jacob himself is in the shower, pondering how the hell his life got so complicated all of a sudden. ]

No. If I go insane enough to properly invite you over, I might. I was going to tell you to make yourself a sandwich.

It's a sandwich. There's no cooking even involved, and unless you can make mayonnaise spontaneously com--- ah, forget I said that.

Kara. If I allow you to stay, and make dinner, you have to do that paperwork. I'll help, but the brunt of the work is yours.

Like... a bacon cheeseburger. Or spaghetti and meatballs.

[She makes hand gestures.]

A really... big... potato. And then pie.

I'm not about to make pie. [ he wanders over to the fridge and pokes around inside for a minute or two ]

[She rolls over on the couch, propping herself up on the arm to watch him wander.]

[ shoots her a glance ] Sorry to dash your hopes, but I can't just whip up anything that comes to mind.

Awww, what? Did you leave your magic Iron Chef powers in your other fedora?

I'm not even going to dignify that with a response. [ after a moment, he begins pulling things out of the fridge and setting them on the counter- potatoes, carrots, this, that and the other ]

[Intrigued, she's going to drift over to watch this process.]

Now you're splitting hairs. [ rummaging through drawers now! ]

And don't you have something you should be doing aside from watching me cook?

This is going to take a little while, so you might as well get it done. [ he snatches up said papers and tosses them onto the table ]

Uh huh. How long, you think?
