log > how are these two so darn cute?

It had been an admittedly strange situation they had all been in - shopping mall, zombies, black outs - it was like a horror film gone wrong.

No one had any explanation for their sudden appearance in the mall, nor did anyone have an explanation for their sudden disappearance from the mall. Just as no one had an explanation for the blue Chevrolet Volt currently parked outside of B.A.B.E.L. headquarters.

For his own part, Jolt was doing what Autobots did best (aside from kicking Decepticon skidplate), and that was hiding in plain sight. Asphalt and sunshine, he decided, were preferable to zombie-laden carpet and the near-darkness of a mall without power. He just didn't like having to wait while Naomi was inside - no doubt trying to explain where the frag she'd been all this time. Jolt'd had a similar problem relaying his whereabouts to - of all mechs - Ratchet. (No doubt the medic thought he was glitched for insisting he'd been fighting off zombies all this time.) But, after much instance, and pleading for Optimus' permission, Jolt was allowed to stay with Naomi for the time being.

The Autobot sighed inwardly. He was still waiting, and he still hated it.

Something was... off. Concrete wasn't supposed to be this soft, it was dark, and hadn't she just been watching Jolt sleep? Yet, none of the above was what she could remember, and she found herself curled up when she finally opened both eyes.

Fighting back a yawn and failing, Naomi gave her head a shake and looked down at the blanket she'd been lying on. Just how-- when had he-- how had her gotten her inside?

"I was more tired than I thought," she mumbled wearily, yawning again and shifting to check out the dashboard and see which one of them was the later riser.

Still bleary-eyed, the young esper nevertheless managed to arrive at the conclusion that her friend was still dead to the world after only ten minutes of deliberation. It was hardly surprising; Jolt had done a lot today-- or was that barely yesterday, the sky was looking rather dark when she looked out the window-- and that little trick of his to add substance to his hologram was no doubt a draining one. He really was trying his best to remain inconspicuous, and she appreciated it. She'd have to make sure she found a good source of energy for him.

"Thanks for staying," she whispered, balancing herself enough around the front seat to plant a light kiss on the steering wheel before she resettled herself in the backseat with the blanket. If anything, working with him was bound to be an experience, and if it proved useful to those watching, there was a chance they'd be able to interact with more of Jolt's friends. Just this one Autobot, however, was more than enough.

"Very well, but..." Here Naomi hesitated, embarrassed to admit that she hadn't slept that heavily for months. She had incredible power on her own, but Level 7s were still infinitely stronger, and the last time she'd had to stop a moving object, it had been a plane-- that alone had required Kaoru's help, and they'd still had trouble with it. She had a lot to work on.

"I'm sorry for waking you," she added, busying herself with folding the blanket up. "How are you feeling, Jolt-san?"

"And you'll need a lot more rest," Naomi observed. She had no doubts concerning Jolt's capacity to function with only a few hours of sleep-- or whatever they called it-- but she had the tendency to worry about others, and he could probably use more than those hours.

She peered out the window, a little surprised to discover that the sun had gone down. "There shouldn't be another mission without a lot more forewarning, so I think we should be fine for tonight."

"In the meantime," Naomi echoed, still looking thoughtfully out the window, "if it's all right with you, there's a good view of the sky on the roof. Do you think maybe we could just talk for a little while?"

It was a tentative question, knowing how energetic the Autobot could get, but she was still worn out. If he wanted to go out on adventures tonight, she wouldn't be the best of company.

Oh, she had a plan, all right-- a very simple one, at that, which she announced cheerfully once she'd gotten out of the car.

"I'm going to lift you," she informed him, as casually as any other girl would say to something a... hell of a lot lighter. "So long as you don't move around too much, it shouldn't be a problem, and we're not going very far as it is."

[identity profile] kittykinesis.livejournal.com 2009-09-04 06:59 am (UTC)(link)
The girl held up a hand to quiet him, already shaking her head. "I won't drop you, if that's what you're worried about. Like I said, it's a short distance-- if it was longer, then I'd have more of a problem with it. Just... let me try." She paused, slowly circling one foot on the ground. "... Please?"

The smile Naomi flashed him could have powered all of B.A.B.E.L.'s facilities in the event of a worldwide blackout, but she didn't waste time-- just in case he changed his mind. Moving a car was one thing, but moving a sentient one was something else entirely, and the last thing she wanted to do was to hurt him.

It took a very strict level of focus to keep her psychokinesis to a point where she could lift him, but also to keep it steady, so that she didn't accidentally crush him in the process. And, miraculously, she managed, flying just above him and drawing the Autobot along with her to the roof.

Moving Jolt went off without a hitch, and she easily found a wide area on the roof to lower him gently. It was only then that the esper allowed herself to breathe, gasping for air as quietly as possible and very thankful that she was still floating; she wasn't entirely certain that her legs would support her after that.

"There, see...? Nothing to worry about."

"..." Judging from the look on her face, Naomi hadn't thought that far ahead-- and clearly wasn't looking forward to getting him down, but it was excellent practice for her power and control.

That was later, though, and she gratefully settled on his hand with a soft sigh. She always felt so tiny and insignificant when compared to him, but there was the part of her that also felt so incredibly safe.

"You've been learning about B.A.B.E.L. and what it is we do, and I know you'll learn even more, but..." Making herself comfortable in his palm, Naomi met his gaze. "I want to learn more about you, Jolt-san. Your friends, your world, yourself... anything you're fine with talking about."

The teenager hummed thoughtfully under her breath, tapping her chin until she had an answer.

"... Who you worked with," she said at last. "I think you said something about huma-- ah, organics-- too, as well as your other soldiers. I'm a little curious."

Naomi listened intently, eyes focused on his face, and nodded every once in awhile to show that he still had an enthralled audience. Nine-- twelve-- Autobots living in a world not their own, and she'd never even had an inkling about it until she'd tried to defend a car that fateful day. The mention of twins earned her friend a raised eyebrow, but she was smiling when he finished.

"You're new and already this skilled? That really is amazing, Jolt-san. And your friend... has a human to look after?" That was somewhat confusing-- was the human young enough to require a babysitter and, even then, why would that babysitter be an Autobot?
