What if it was just the two of us?

[ Maya, that defeats the purpose. ]

[ aaaand cue a smirk. ]

My, my. Are you curious about what I look like, Maya?

Well... yeah, considering all I can see are your nose and your lips.

Not that they're not very nice lips. They are, and I-- uh. That was. That was probably weird, wasn't it? I'm sorry.

[ oh. Oh my.

For a moment there, Kasumi's lips part as though she can't believe what she's just heard. And there's a fluttering in her chest that--wait, what? It's nice, though, and something Kasumi hasn't quite felt ~~since she laid eyes on Jacob~~ for a while. ]

She has to bite down on her lip to suppress a big smile. ]

No, Maya. That was fine.

Your lips are very nice, too, by the way.

Oh. Um. Thank you.

[ At the mention of them, she licks her lips, and now she's definitely blushing. She's not sure where this is going, but she'd definitely like to find out. ]

[ The small act, of course, catches Kasumi's veiled eyes, and not for the first time, Kasumi wonders, between the flutters and the her unexplained happiness that Maya so much as finds her lips to be "very nice," about how Maya might feel about their friendship. She knows how Maya feels about the books, knows how she feels about the surprisingly great team they make during fights, but after hearing that the Siren had apparently missed Kasumi, the thief can't help but want to know more.

On her part, talking to and seeing Maya has always been a nice treat, a break from the worries that accompany her work, going up against Cerberus and living in a galaxy at war. Here's someone who, in spite of it all, is traveling and learning and hoping and lets Kasumi forget how hopeless she'd began to feel in the midst of everything. She hadn't been looking to find or make any new friends in the middle of the end times, and yet Here They Are, and Kasumi just keeps wondering what this all means, especially when the sight of Maya licking her lips, blushing, has Kasumi captivated for a reason she herself seems vaguely aware of.

All she really knows is that Maya really is amazing. ]

... Don't mention it.

[ She leans back, then, letting her hand skirt the edge of her hood where it meets her shoulders. ]

To answer your earlier question, though--if it was just the two of us? I wouldn't mind. As long as you promise not to tell a soul about it.

[ The small smile on her face says that she's half-joking, half-serious. Mostly serious. ]

[ Maya knows enough about Kasumi, and enough about what she does for a living, to know that keeping her appearance a secret is paramount. She is a shadow, and the fact that Kasumi is even half-serious about showing Maya her face is--

Well, it's pretty serious.

Maya can't help but feel elated at the prospect that she's close enough to Kasumi- special enough to her- for the thief to even consider it. ]

I was wondering if... if maybe you wanted to get out of here? I've got a room I rented for the night and we could head there? If you wanted.

[ Well.

Kasumi isn't sure what to make of Maya's question--she could just mean "let's get out of this crappy little bar and go somewhere where we can really talk in a purely platonic manner," but given how the conversation's gone thus far...

She finds herself hoping. And that's pretty new, which is why it takes her a moment to respond coolly. ]

Let's go. Don't get me wrong--I like grungy, but this place is just a little bit too seedy for me.

Are you kidding? This would be a five-star establishment on Pandora.

[ but even as she's saying it, she's sliding out of her seat, a sudden feeling of anticipation shooting through her. The idea of being alone with Kasumi is... oddly exciting, and her gaze lingers for a moment on the other woman's lips. ]

It's not far. [ thankfully ]

[ She laughs at the quip before she slides out of her own seat, more than ready--in fact, almost eager--to follow Maya. And thank god they don't have to keep meeting Pandora, because it's so far away from everywhere else Kasumi usually travels to, and the thought of having to wait that long to see Maya? Pretty much unbearable.

Also, it's really freaking hot in most places there. ]

Let's go.

[ She takes the liberty of looping her arm around Maya's. ]

[ If it's possible for Maya to get redder, she does. She tries to play it cool, angling her head so that her bangs fall in her face to hide her blush, but the way she keep sneaking sidelong glances at the woman next to her, and the grin she has on her face pretty much undoes all of that.

Her hotel is fairly close, and it's a step above the bar- which really doesn't say much, but it is clean. Has all of the windows, walls and doors it needs. The room is a little small, but to be fair, Maya was expecting a solo trip. ]

So. Uh. Here we are.

[ By this point, Maya has realized she has no idea what's supposed to happen now. ]

[ Now don't think Kasumi hadn't noticed all those sidelong glances and all that grinning, Maya, because she definitely did, and she might have even done the same.

When they reach the room, Kasumi whistles. ]

Not too shabby.

[ It's then that she slips away from Maya, taking a few steps forward into the room and then looking back at the Siren over her shoulder. ]

So, are we here to talk? Hang out? Discuss fine literature?

Not too shabby for a hole in the wall, at least.

[ Ah. That's a good question. Maya chews her bottom lip, thinking of how best to answer that ]

Well, I don't really know. I was just wanting to be... alone. With you.

[ Kasumi has to honestly wonder if Maya realizes how bold she sounds at this very moment. Maybe she took a few pointers from the romance novels? In any case, she hums at length, and thoughtfully so. ]

Is that so?

Well, that makes two of us.

[ Maya can be... pretty blunt sometimes. It's never quite worked out for her like this before. ]

Oh?

I was also wanting to be close to you.

[ she takes a few steps closer, and despite however bold she may seem, her cheeks are blazing. She reaches out to take one of Kasumi's hands in her own, twining their fingers together. She wonders of the thief can hear the way her heart is pounding in hear ears. ] And I was also wondering how you felt about helping me broaden my horizons.

[ oh my god Maya you can't just say things like that

Just kidding, you totally can. Kasumi isn't typically one to blush, but she does, on occasion... like at this very moment, (although it's hard to tell). There are about a million things running through her head when Maya takes her hand--like whether or not this means what she thinks it means, whether she's really ready to be with someone again in any sort of capacity, what if the anyone who's looking for the data in her and Keiji's grayboxes find out about Maya and--and what if we don't win against the Reapers, and this is all doomed to failure in any case--

She snaps herself out of before long when she realizes--right now? She's alone with Maya who, again, is amazing, and she glances down at their hands, fingers laced together, and gives her hand a squeeze before she finally looks back up. ]

I think I can help with that...

[ Her free hand reaches up, skirting the edge of her hood again, but there's a slight hesitation. ]

[ Maya reaches up, resting her free hand on Kasumi's arm ] You don't have to just yet.

I was actually--- I was wondering if I could kiss you.

[ So those lips of hers that Maya thinks are very nice? They curl into a sly little smile. ]

How cute of you to ask, Maya.

[ She steps in, closing the gap between them. ]

You can, and you may.

[ Now's not the time for semantics, lady. Now is the time for kissing- which Maya does, although hesitantly at first.

First kiss, awaaaay! ]

[ It's when Kasumi feels Maya's lips pressed against hers that it hits, just how much she'd actually wanted this, although she kisses back with just about as much hesitation for reasons. ]

[ She actually has to pull away because she's smiling too much to really kiss her properly. ]

Ah. Sorry. That's the first time I've ever... done that.

[ A hand of Kasumi's reaches up to cup Maya's cheek, brushing her thumb affectionately against her cheekbone as she lets out an airy little laugh. ]

There's nothing for you to apologize for. It was nice.

And you're adorable.

[ Soo hey she's going to lean up and kiss Maya again for that. ]

[ Oh. Okay this is good. Maya can live with this.

She doesn't want to put her hands anywhere near Kasumi's hood- she'll let Kasumi make that call, if she wants to- so she wraps her arms around the thief's waist, tugging her closer. ]

[ She sure is getting the hang of this kissing thing pretty quickly.

Which is all good to Kasumi, naturally, and she smiles against the kiss when she feels Maya's arms around her.

Although she can't resist but pull away soon after just to sneak in another cheeky comment. ]

This isn't kissing under the stars or in an enchanted forest or a castle like in those books, but I'd say this is just as good, yeah?

[ She laughs a little, arms still looped around Kasumi's waist to keep her close ]

This is much better than any book.
