[She curls up against him immediately, her head resting on his shoulder.]

I don't know, I've just been trying to distract myself.

[wavewalker]

[ He threads his fingers through her hair in attempt to be soothing ]

I won't let anything happen to you, so long as you're on this ship. I swear.

[wolfishsurvivalist]

Well, as long as it's the good kind of exciting, I don't mind things happening to me.

[She smiles a little, his efforts having an almost instantaneous effect on her as her shoulders relax and her tail began wagging. Even if she was scared of what could be lurking in the water, she was still glad he brought her with him.]

[wavewalker]

And here I thought the anything bad part was implied.

[ He smiles at her, leaning in to bump their foreheads together. ]

[wolfishsurvivalist]

Well, yes.

[She grins, rubbing her forehead against his while her tail thumps noisily against the deck.]

[wavewalker]

[ He gives her a light kiss on the nose ] Come on my dear. Do you think you can manage a walk around the deck?

[wolfishsurvivalist]

Auu! [Her eyes squeeze shut as she flusters a little, her tail curling at the kiss.]

I think I can do that much at least.

[wavewalker]

[ He stands, then, and offers her a hand. ] You know if there's anything you need, you only need to ask.

[wolfishsurvivalist]

Yeah.

[She takes his hand, rising to her feet and stopping only to dust off the seat of her pants.]

[wavewalker]

Just making sure.

[ He guides her out from under her stairs and onto the main deck. The Dead End Moon isn't a large ship, by any means, but she gets the job done.

Right now they have a decent wind, and are moving along at a good clip. No land in sight, at least for the moment.

The crew is a modest size, and surprisingly versatile. (Ian is the only Raptori on board, however.) They regard Mika and Ian with small smiles and nods before returning to their work. ]

[Even though she's been onboard a while, long enough to almost memorize everyone's names, she still tends to almost hide behind him when around the crew. New people had always made her a little nervous, and now that she was in a world where she only really knew one person, an odd kind of shyness had seized her. So while she stuck close beside him, she tried not to squeeze his hand too tightly.

Mika could manage a small smile and a tiny wave in greeting no matter whether she'd shrink behind Ian's back or not.

It was a good thing the wind could distract her easily, though. A strange scent catches her attention occasionally and she pauses mid-step, sniffing at the air before leaning against him again.]

[wavewalker]

[ By this point, Ian just shakes his head at her shyness. She'd get over it in her own time, he's sure. He laces their fingers together, guiding her along. ] Smell anything interesting?

[wolfishsurvivalist]

Mm. [She nods, her tail wagging.]

I don't know what it is but it's pretty faint. I wish I could figure out what it is, though.

[wavewalker]

If it is what I think it is, then I should--

Ah-! [ He recoils suddenly, letting go of her hand so he can press his fingers to the back of his left shoulder ]

And there it is. Damnable thing.

[wolfishsurvivalist]

Wha--?

[Her startle response is to immediately freeze, nostrils flared as her ears perk, her flight response nearly making her drop to the deck.]

[wavewalker]

Easy, Mika. Nothing to worry about. Just a little gift from my new patron god.

... I haven't really told you what's happened since I left Mayfield, have I?

[wolfishsurvivalist]

Oh for...seriously Ian? I thought someone or some thing had sniped you. Swear you almost gave me a heart attack...

[Grumbling deep in her chest she rubs her face, feeling a little embarrassed by her overreaction before she gives him a tiny glare.]

No, I don't think you had. Care to enlighten me?

[wavewalker]

You may want to take a seat. I'll summarize the best I can, but it's sort of involved. [ And he'll wait for her to take a seat somewhere before launching into his tale ]

It's been quite a while for me- a year at least- since I came back from the town.

In that time, I helped take down a goddess at the behest of her brother. Tragedy, the goddess in question, had not only sealed away her sister, Mercy, to keep her from interfering, but she would travel the land, razing entire villages to the ground. The residents of which all went missing, never heard from again. It'd been popular opinion for years that they were simply dead.

[ A beat ] My home was destroyed by her, some six years ago.

But the god of death, and Mercy and Tragedy's brother, Gatekeeper realized that the people that Tragedy claimed no longer stepped through his Gate. Tragedy was keeping their souls, putting them in construct bodies of steel-coated bone. She was creating an army.

Long story short, a few others and myself set out to confront Tragedy and free Mercy at Gatekeeper's request. Mercy was freed, a friend of mine became a god, my First Mate met his lovely bride-to-be, and Gatekeeper approached me with an ultimatum- I could step through his Gate at that moment, and be reunited with the loved ones I had lost, or I could help him track down the remains of Tragedy's scattered forces and put their souls to rest.

My loved ones would be waiting for me, and there was no need to waste the years I had left, so I offered my help. Gatekeeper has an annoying sense of humor, because he gave me the ability to sense the lost souls I'm seeking, via a mark on my shoulder, which acts as a sort of compass. It hurts initially, either to make sure I'm paying attention or to make sure I don't shirk my duties. Either way it's obnoxious, and I'm still not used to it.

[wolfishsurvivalist]

Well considering you had to listen to me go on about nonsense on more than one occasion, it's the least I can do.

[She does find herself a perch, cocking her head at him as her ears angle towards him, giving Ian her undivided attention.

As his story goes on, her lips twist in either disbelief or an attempt to stifle her own comments, her ears flicking back at times before they tilt forward again.]

Well, it could be worse, I guess? Losing everyone, though? That's harsh. Did you ever find out why she was building this golem army, though?

[wavewalker]

Not as such, since it ended in a confrontation between siblings. I can only assume that Tragedy meant to remove those who set limits on her. She's a wild, vengeful thing, who truly delighted causing havoc.

[wolfishsurvivalist]

Well with a name like that, it doesn't really surprise me.

[She huffs, her ears folding back.]

Still, though...I'm sorry.

[wavewalker]

[ He shrugs ] Old wounds, Mika. After all I've been through, I can hardly let them hold me back any more.

[wolfishsurvivalist]

You're a stronger person than I am, then. Not that that's new.

[She huffs, leaning over to buff her cheek against his shoulder.]

[wavewalker]

You're stronger than you give yourself credit for.

... You know, you're part of the reason I stayed.

[wolfishsurvivalist]

Eh... [She makes a face, shrugging a little as she ducks her head.

Until he surprises a huff out of her.]

What? What do you mean?
