[ Setting aside the compliment (said twice??) for the moment, Laura glances sharply at the punch bowl. More specifically, at a highly-suspicious man loitering near the punch bowl, and she quietly clears her throat and narrows her eyes. ]

If you would like to find a different drink, I'll be taking care of this problematic one very quickly. Please excuse me for a moment.

Once the sugar and cinnamon are in place, he presses them into the dough with the rolling pin. Then he folds each side inward until they meet in the middle, brushes egg wash onto the surface, and closes the sheet. ]

We'll chill it in the refrigerator for thirty minutes. It'll solidify the dough.

[ naturally, Lupin's thoughts mirror her own. This has to be Cardia's first Christmas; those few years she lived before meeting him were spent all alone in one room, for the most part. He'd be doing her a great disservice if he didn't make this holiday a special one. The other boys all think the same thing, of course - but, naturally, it's more important for him. She's his darling treasure, after all.

But he very much wasn't expecting her to beat him to the punch. He looks genuinely surprised to see her with an armful of presents (and a bow around her neck? there may be a faint blush dusting his cheeks.) ]

It's not the first time he has felt this way, and Ann is certainly not the first to make him feel so, but it's also not her fault at all.

He's the problem. That thing he's hiding underneath his wristband is the problem. Friends will come and go, but his past will always remain on his wrist. Would she want to hang out with him if she knew? He's afraid to know the answer.

But right now, she's asking him something, and he remembers to smile. It's not hard, actually. He's happy to be here! Happy with the company. ]
