Not in the way you'd expect. [only in the sense that he generally doesn't trust adults, totally separate of her own capabilities.]

You always look out for me and the other students, in your own way. Even when it doesn't benefit you... I think that's how a teacher should be.

... I did tell you someone believed in me, once. She didn't have to. Helping me wasn't going to be doing her any favors.

But because she did, I... kind of wanted to do the same. And when I was offered the chance to do what she did, well.

I thought maybe it'd help someone else, the way it helped me.

[he pauses, as if trying to find the right words for a moment like this. words aren't always his strong suit, and he definitely wants whatever he says right now to be just right.]

I can say with confidence that it's helped someone else.
