But he very much wasn't expecting her to beat him to the punch. He looks genuinely surprised to see her with an armful of presents (and a bow around her neck? there may be a faint blush dusting his cheeks.) ]
Ah... Merry Christmas, Cardia. [ pause. ] My lady, surely those boxes can't all be for me...?
[ though if they are... he'd be happy... does she love him that much?! ]

[ She thought she'd learned as much as she could about Christmas and the act of gift-giving, but maybe she'd been wrong? Cardia hesitates for a few seconds-- but then pushes on. ]
... Even if they're not, they are. I was told that presents were for everything you were grateful for, and when I thought about it, there was a lot.

You're not wrong. I was just - surprised. Nobody's actually showered me in presents before. [ he rubs his nose. it's rare to see him shy, but his body language now suggests that he's actually a little flustered. ] ...You don't need to thank me for anything, you know. But... you're welcome.
[ a pause. he sighs, amused, as he pulls out a big bouquet of white and red roses from behind his back; there seems to be something attached to them. ]
You're really giving me a run for my money, though. Who could have guessed my dear lady would be this romantic? I'm a little troubled.

[ And from the flustered way he's acting, maybe it means she actually succeeded. Not a whole lot catches Lupin off-guard, but she can't help but feel a sudden surge of quiet pride that she managed to.
And then she spots the flowers, and her face brightens further. ]
You shouldn't feel troubled! These are beautiful, Lupin!

A beautiful girl deserves beautiful flowers. [ he maintains his confidence nonetheless, holding the bouquet out towards her with a smile. ] So you, of course, deserve more than that. Put those boxes down for a moment and check the card.
[ he's referring to the envelope attached to the bouquet where there would normally be a tag. In it is a plain card, addressed to her in Lupin's sweeping handwriting - and inside that card are two more little pieces of paper. They're tickets to the theater - a ballet troupe all the way from Russia is visiting for the holidays to put on a performance of The Nutcracker, and he's obtained a pass in for both of them. (How he got them is probably better left to the imagination.) ]

And besides, she seems more than thrilled with what he's gotten her, head tilted in curiosity at first when she does indeed lower the boxes and open the envelope-- until she lights up. ]
The ballet? Really??
[ She's heard of the ballet, of course, she takes in all sorts of new things as often as she can, but she's also heard they're a big deal and rather expensive. ]

Yup. I thought you might enjoy it. Saint-Germain can tell you about culture all he wants, but things like that are better experienced.
[ he grins at her happy reaction - sure, he's still feeling like he didn't do enough, but at least he managed to satisfy her a little bit. He'll just have to make up for the rest later. ]
I got us some good seats, too. You'll like it.
