And that is precisely why on this fine day that Yang and Ruby are once again out on their young trainer journey, Yang is...

[ How is he going to be a mighty champion if literally anyone and everything spooks him, we just don't know-- ]

[Ruby herself pops out of a neighboring bush, small leaves and twigs sticking out of her hair and cape. ("it'll be fine," she said. "it's my whole aesthetic," she said.) she steps out of the underbrush to shake herself clean before replying somewhat indignantly,]

No! I mean, at least not this time. It's kind of hard not to when he's freaked out by... y'know, everything.

Not everything! [ just as indignantly, even as she shakes leaves out of her hair. ] You don't have to whisper around him anymore, right? He's getting tougher!

[ Okay, sure, she's never met a Fighting-type that's been so easily alarmed, but... she'd never raised one from birth, either. Maybe it's like a rite of passage for them, who knows. ]

[Ruby's about to respond when she's cut short by the cry of a baby Pokémon—a very particular one, in fact. it's Yang's Tyrogue... with Ruby's Lillipup right behind it, heckling the poor tyke.]

Oh my god. Lillipup, cut that out! [snapping her head to the side before she begins to join the chase, she frantically says,] I didn't teach him that, I swear!

[ And there Yang goes, vaulting into the fray. Well, she knew they didn't exactly get along, but having partners that don't get along with your sister's never bodes well for the future. ]

Hey-- hey, you're fine, come on. [ With the appearance of "Mommy", Tyrogue instantly runs for her instead, burying his face against her until Yang scoops him up. ]

... Does Lillipup do this with all of yours?

[ Do any of Ruby's even let him? ]

[Ruby quickly grabs Lillipup by the scruff of his neck, bopping him on the top of his head to reprimand him for misbehaving. Pokémon are definitely more than just pets, which makes things like this a little awkward... even if both are still babies.]

N-not usually... I think he thinks of it as playing? [dropping her gaze to her feet in embarrassment, she sighs in resignation.] Sorry, Yang...

Hey, it's not your fault. [ she'll shift Tyrogue to her hip and reach out to ruffle Ruby's hair. ]

Lillipup's still a baby, too. Maybe Tyrogue will get that he's just trying to play.

[ From the way he's trying to burrow against her, may... be.. not... but she's going to make him a great fighter, she knows it. ]

[at least Lillipup doesn't growl at Tyrogue any further; he just yips as if he did nothing wrong, while Ruby smiles at Yang's attempt to cheer her up. there's no better traveling companion than one's big sister, after all... even if she's messing your hair up.]

Hey—! [lightly smacking her sister's hand away, Ruby lets herself laugh and recover from the minor kerfuffle.] At least Scyther is a little more well-behaved, even if she's still kinda fussy sometimes.

You needed a fussy type, anyway. [ Yang grins and draws her hand back. ] But you've got a good team, Ruby. You know that, right?

[ Well, the team had probably responded to having a trainer who adored them, but all the same, Yang's relieved for it. ]
