[ give her a moment, she needs to think this through. ] it's a bit disappointing when you hear about people like... us doing bad things to each other. The necromancers, I mean. I know we all have our differences, but sometimes I just wish we'd stick together instead of using our abilities against each other.

It’s a sentiment I very much share. [ And it was also a lesson hard-learned. ] There is something of a debate between Necromancers and Spiritualists about whether a person ceases to be a person once their body has died. They would believe that is true, and so they don’t necessarily act out of malice, though I suppose some of them might. Ignorance can be just as harmful as hate.

Unfortunately, as I said before, there are very few wizards who posses enough spiritual sensitivity to even see spirits. Necromancers are allowed to continue as they are because people care very little about the things they cannot see.

[ His mouth presses into a thin line for a moment. ] If you’d like, I can give you some wards against Necromancy, as a precaution.

Does it ever get frustrating? Specializing in something that others of your kind don't really appreciate or understand? [ like being an art major. ]

You get used to it. I suppose we are also few in number because those of us who are truly dedicated don't particularly care about the approval or understanding of our peers.

[ she immediately follows after him. ]

When you've been around for nearly two centuries, I suppose some things cease to matter so much.

[ she trips over a headstone. ]

[ He actually doesn't answer her at first because he's trying to figure out how someone without a physical body managed to trip on something. ]

[ she is completely oblivious to his shock. ]

How long-lived? What's the average lifespan?

I have another five decades or so in me, I believe.

[ He indicates the gravestone with a motion of his hand. ] Did you legitimately run into that?

Oh.

[ she just kind of. shrugs. ] Um, yes. It's a thing I do? It's kind of a complicated process. I actually haven't really spoken to other ghosts about it, so I'm not really sure how common it is? If it even is?

In my own experience, I've yet to meet a spirit who can interact with objects without intense amounts of concentration or outside help.

So, I would dare to wager that it is not all that common.

[ if he does, she'd feel... not quite solid? like kind of weird and squishy, but he'd definitely actually touch her. ]

Matthias' eyebrows go up, and he looks at her as if to ask "are you sure?" But, well, she did give him permission.

He reaches out and gently pokes her in the shoulder ]

There was a point where I got almost completely solid! And-- get this-- normal people saw me. Oh my god, it was amazing! Getting to just walk around and wave at strangers and then get yelled at by strangers. Wild!

[ she frowns. ] I don't think I'll be able to do that again. It doesn't seem to work anymore.

Might I ask how that happened? Or do you not know?

Such a thing is possible, but not without assistance. I could help you along, for instance, but the spellwork involved is extremely complicated and time-consuming, and the effects are only temporary.

I wouldn't want to trouble you, just talking like this is nice enough.

But, um, I sort of met this priest who said he'd help me pass on? Since I sort of missed my chance to go to heaven after I completely my unfinished business-- long story. But at that point, since I'd missed my shot, I assumed I was going to be stuck here forever so I agreed.

Anyway, it turned out he was a raging lunatic and he forcibly sent me to purgatory. But then they kind of let me just... come back here? I'm still not entirely sure why. Since then, though, I've only been visible to people like vampires and other ghosts.

Count yourself extremely lucky. Something like that would irreparably damage most spirits, to the point of madness or corruption. The circumstances of our meeting would be very different indeed, were that the case.

But it does explain why I cannot seem to find the thread binding you to this world.

Yeah. My whole thing was finding out the real circumstances of my death and scaring the twat who murdered me shitless. That was really soothing, I highly recommend it. But right when I was about to pass over, someone came over and tried to murder Mitchell? It was awful timing, and I ended up missing the window. So, here I am.

[ she bends down to pick up a fallen vase of flowers and sets it upright. ] I don't particularly mind anymore. As long as I have my friends, I'm happy.

I have to commend you for finding that sort of peace. It’s hard to come by for anybody.

[ They’ve reached the sheltered area of the cemetery by now, and motions to a grassy area behind some trees. ] Would you care to take a seat?

[ she checks to make sure there aren't any obvious bugs or anything before obediently settling down on the grass. ]

[ He sits down across from her, because why not ]

[ He brings up a hand, index and piddle fingers extended, and begins drawing out marks in the air. Emerald-colored light flows from his fingertips, hovering in the air between them. ]

[ even though he said they can talk, she doesn't say anything right away—which is kind of a feat in itself because boy does annie talk a lot—since she's too busy watching him work. holy shit, it's magic. the grin on her face is so big it looks a little painful. ]
