[ She smiles again, patting Charlie on his knee before collecting her case and standing. ]

Please be sure to take care of yourself, my dear.

[ Myriad shows her out, turning her down when she offers to take Charlie off his hands. Instead, he simply says, I'll find you someone else, and she pouts. The assassin rolls his eyes, showing her he's not swayed, and waves his goodbyes as she steps off the ship. He returns to Charlie's room momentarily, hovering in the entryway once again. ]

She said it'd be safest if you stayed here for the next day or two. At least until the soreness passes. [ A lie, but a feasible one. ] Your choice, of course.

[animated]

[ By the time Myriad makes it back to Charlie's room, his walls have already started to crumble, and his throat works for a moment, willing the words to come without his voice breaking.

He nearly succeeds. ] Sure. Sure, that's... fine.

[redoubling]

[ He frowns, apparently alarmed, and takes a step into the room. ]

Charlie, if you'd rather leave, I won't stop you. You are not a prisoner here.

[animated]

No, that's not it. I just... things are-- today has- I'm sorry. I'm a wreck right now.

[redoubling]

[ He shakes his head, taking the chair and moving it closer to the bed before taking a seat. ]

Given the circumstances, I'm surprised by how well you've taken all this so far. I can't imagine how I would handle what you've been through.

[animated]

[ He leans back against the wall, eyes cast up at the ceiling as he pulls his hands through his hair ] I don't know what I'm going to do.

[redoubling]

Is there no one you can contact? Friends or distant family?

[animated]

Nobody.

I"m all alone out here. I'm all alone and somebody wants me dead.

[redoubling]

Charlie...

[ He's quiet for a long moment, expression soft. ]

If-- well. If you'd like--

[ He hesitates, spreading his hand. ]

There's room for you here.

[animated]

[ Charlie's gaze snaps towards the Changer ] But you don't even know me.

[redoubling]

[ He huffs out a quiet laugh. ]

To be fair, neither do you know me.

[animated]

[ A fair point, and one he should give more consideration than he does. But he's lost and confused, and so, so tired of being alone ]

You'd seriously let me stay here?

[redoubling]

I don't see why not. You seem decent enough, when you aren't throwing a man against walls.

[animated]

[ He looks a little embarrassed, gaze sliding away from the Changer. ]

Knee-jerk reaction. It won’t happen again.

[redoubling]

[ he waves a hand dismissively. ]

Your instincts are good. Don't suppress them.

[animated]

Still, I'll try not to throw you around.

[redoubling]

[ He raises his eyebrows, and while he doesn't smile, there's a lightness to his expression that suggests one. ]

Is that a yes to my proposition, then?

[animated]

Only if you're sure. I don't want to be a burden.

[redoubling]

[ He shakes his head. ]

You wouldn't be.

Consider it a favor to me. I've been traveling on my own for quite some time.

[ The smile does come out, this time, though it's a small one, seemingly sad around the edges. ]

I wouldn't mind the company.

[animated]

I... alright. I'll stay.

[ he's got a small smile on his own face, though he's far from being okay again. ]

[redoubling]

I'm glad.

[ Myriad reaches over, a hand on Charlie's knee. ]

Get some rest. We can figure out how to accommodate you properly once you've gotten some sleep.

[animated]

[ The contact is... unexpected, but oddly not unwelcome. Charlie finds himself with the urge to reach out, to cover Myriad's hand with his own, but he quickly dismisses it. There's a line here he shouldn't cross. ]

You know, my old man's a Changer.

[ It just sort of comes out, in an odd attempt to stave off sleep ad loneliness and dreaming of bleeding bodies on his apartment floor ] Weird that I'm not, I know. Fate had different ideas, I guess.

[redoubling]

[ He pulls back, head tilted to one side with curiosity. He understands it's a diversion, but he allows it. ]

That's quite rare, not inheriting your father's ability. I can't imagine he was pleased.

[animated]

[ He huffs out a laugh, leaning forward to hug his knees ] He'd say "Mover" like it was a dirty word.

When you said you were a Changer, I thought for sure he'd sent you to bring me back.

[redoubling]

[ He frowns, nodding. ] A logical conclusion, if unfortunate.

As I said, so long as you're with me, no one will force you to return home. I'll make sure of that.
