[ he gives a dismissive little wave as he steps out of the bedroom ] Let me know if it doesn't work.

[ surprising exactly no one, it takes some time for the belts and buckles of the mage's outfit to be undone, though Dorian does it with practiced ease. The robes are folded away and exchanged for the shirt and jeans.

... It's rather plain, he thinks. Far plainer than anything he's worn before, but at the very least, it seems to fit; it'll have to do.

He's still plucking at the shirt when he opens the door, a thoughtful frown knitting his brows together. ]

Well, I assume this is more acceptable?

[ Charlie's first thought? An oh-so-eloquent oh no he's hot. But he keeps his expression carefully neutral ]

Much better.

[cultivations]

Happy to have met your approval. Frankly, I feel ridiculous.

[animated]

Oh- I should probably explain some of the basic functions of the stuff around the house real quick.

[cultivations]

Ah, and here I thought you were just going to allow me to beat your devices into submission with my bare hands.

[animated]

You're in an Animator's house, buddy. Here, the devices hit back.

[cultivations]

Ah, so the spells persist, then? With no involvement on your part?

Fascinating.

[animated]

With the right amount of time and effort, the spells will live longer than me.

[cultivations]

Alright, then, I'm paying attention. I shall attempt to not be too frightened, but I apologize if I cower in a corner from the strangeness of it all.

[animated]

You've managed to refrain so far. I have faith in you.

[ And the great grand tour of the technology of 2015 starts with... well, it starts with the lights, since they're simple enough. And then a tour of the marvels of indoor plumbing- you know, the essentials. The kitchen comes next- the fridge keeps food cold, the microwave warms it up, that kind of thing- and now they're back in the living room staring down Charlie's rather impressive entertainment center. ]

I'm trying to figure out how best to explain this.

[ he's slipping one of the slim cases from its spot on the shelf, inspecting it. ]

Well, regardless of how you explain it, you have yourself quite a large collection. Borderline problematic, even.

When you've been around as long as I have, you tend to accumulate things.

[cultivations]

Long-lived, then, I take it? More and more surprises with you. Is there an end to it?

[animated]

Pretty much. Wizards usually have bout, eh, two hundred? Two hundred and fifty years in them. I'm still on the young side at eighty.

But I think that's the last of my surprises. I don't have anything else grand and shocking to tell you.

[cultivations]

Eighty, he says, as if that were unremarkable.

The average lifespan for mages back home is nowhere near as long, I'm afraid. Mostly occupational hazard. Occasionally, persecution. Even more likely, court intrigue is involved.

[animated]

What, so they literally stab each other in the back?

[cultivations]

Oh, that's too harsh. I believe the typical phrasing is, "eliminate dissenting opinions."

[animated]

Hah. [ he tries to make it sound flat and humorless, but there's something oddly bitter about his tone. He catches himself, though, and his next statement is far less venomous. ]

Wizards don't get that fancy. They just say it's been dealt with.

[cultivations]

[ hide it as he might, Dorian catches the twinge of bitterness there, that hint of something falling a little too close to some hidden target. It's not his place to ask, though he shuffles it away. ]

How delightfully brusque. I'm beginning to think I'll get along just fine, here.

[animated]

But I'm still assuming you want to get back home as soon as possible.

[cultivations]

Naturally. While I'm sure my presence here will brighten your dreary halls considerably, I've business to attend to back home. Worlds to save. Demons to kill. Insane cultists to murder.

You must know my predicament.

Sounds like there's a good story there. Care to share?

Really? I had thought I summed it up rather succinctly, there.
