I'd heard things were bad, but I had no idea they were this bad.

[ Kasumi was on Illium when Earth was attacked, and she'll never forget the way her heart sank when the screens all around the Nos Astra tuned in to show the vids coming in from Earth in place of the usual fare of usual stock market numbers and advertisements. It had been horrifying, sickening, and then it was all of a sudden gone after the feeds got cut off. ]

They're pretty bad all around. You picked a great time to come to this part of the galaxy, really.

[ She's not sure if it's worth noting at the moment that she plans on swiping the book from under this merc boss's nose so she can find a more respectable buyer and give the money to the refugees. ]

[ Maya's frown deepens, and she pauses long enough to rest her hand on Kasumi's shoulder, trying to catch her gaze under that hood ]

I'm sorry, Kasumi. I'm sure this isn't easy on anyone.

[ She's just a tad surprised at first when she feels Maya's hand on her shoulder, but soon enough she's sweeping the previously concerned look on her face away in favor of a reassuring, spirited smile. ]

No kidding. But hey, that's why us able folk have to make sure the little guys get all the help they need, and deserve. Right?

Right. Let's go get ourselves a book.

Okay, it doesn't sound nearly as awesome as it's going to be when you put it like that.

[ She'll be leading them through the walkways now, and eventually turns around a corner. The hallway leads them into what looks like a cargo area, but it's overflowing with boxes and stuff. Despite the Systems Alliance's best efforts, this war has thrown a lot of things into disarray: shipments never make it to colonies that have been utterly destroyed, people can't pick their things up when they're dead -- that sort of issue. ]

Eesh. Lots of stuff in here.

I assume what we're looking for will be fairly obvious?

Yup. Just look for anything coming in heavily guarded?

[ When they reach the end of the hall there's a door above which are the words "CARGO BAY," but the interface in the center of the door's surface is red. ]

Locked, huh? Mercs must have pulled some strings or threatened some people to get this place to themselves for this thing.

[ Luckily, locked doors are no problem for someone like Kasumi; her omni-tool appears on her arm, then, and after a few keystrokes and strings of code scrolling rapidly down her screen, the interface on the door turns green. ]

Looks like I'm not the only one with tricks up my sleeve.

[ She grins as the door begins to open, beyond which is a large room--actually, it's so large "room" doesn't quite fit the bill; it's just a big space with a whole lot of cargo, equipment, and other such things in it. ]

Oh, Maya. I'm really good at tricks--it's kind of my thing. And I've got a lot of them.

I'm sure it's the same for you, no? I'm pretty sure we're going to make a kick-ass team.

[ Maya takes a moment to take in the sheer size of the place. Lots of blind corners and places for goons to hide. Gross.

But still, she gives Kasumi a smirk, something wicked at the edges ]

I think we will. These guys won't know what hit them.

[ There's a disproportionate number of conveniently waist-high walls and boxes, too, don't forget!

She returns with something of a smirk of her own, though. ]

Let's see what these guys are up to. Maybe we'll get the jump on them.
