[Letting out a noise that's between a squawk and a screech and she flops around. BUT at least her wing is better now, so she calms down quickly.]

[Brisa folds her wing back in carefully after flexing it a little. She shakes her head letting out a sigh.]

Thanks. It probably would have been worse if I waited any longer.

Don't mention it. Can you shift back?

Mmmm. Yes, I think I should be able to. Could you give me some room please? Just place me on the bed.

[ She sets her down and steps back to give her space. ]

Alright. Here goes nothing.

[littlebreeze]

[Brisa spreads her wings and then envelopes herself within them. The bird gradually disappears, shifting into a dark skinned human girl wearing an even darker dress and boots. Her hair is very, long and tied back into a braid that reaches her ankles.

It's all fine and good, but as for her face, it's completely covered up by a decorative mask.]

Phew! No problems at all.

Well. You're not what I expected.

[littlebreeze]

Eh? What do you mean? What else were you expecting, but a human shape??

[yarnbooksgirls]

The mask is throwing me off, for starters.

[littlebreeze]

Oh. You mean this.

[She puts her hands almost protectively over it.]

It's important to me. I don't wanna lose it.

Huh. All right. What better way not to lose something than to wear it?

[littlebreeze]

I do have a face you know. It's not scary.

[She hesitates, but adds]

And... it helps me. Shape shifting is rather difficult nowadays.

[yarnbooksgirls]

You're not like any other shifter I've met.

[littlebreeze]

Like I said, I'm a blackbird. Not a human shape shifter, but an animal shape shifter.

[yarnbooksgirls]

... Wait, for real? That's practically unheard of.

[littlebreeze]

There used to be more like me. [She casts her gaze to the ground.]

Now... other animals either decided to stay human or they returned to how they once were. Magical folk don't need familiars anymore.

[ So there's a new guy on the base. Well, not new really, but apparently he's been decommissioned for some time (sound familiar?) and is making his way around. He was probably one of the first, didn't last very long in the field, fell into the ocean and that was that.

Well, until they dug up his body years later, and until they told him he was needed back on base. They promised he wouldn't have to do anything, train the recruits maybe, help with some strategy, but no combat. They said they won't strap him back in and make his partner realize what drowning feels like.

Silly Steve, he believed them.

So there he is, not really watching where he's going because it seems pretty empty in this hall, reading a language help book because if this is a permanent staple, he might as well learn a little Chinese. ]

[ Raleigh had heard there was someone else around the Shatterdome who was recently back in the game- a MK I pilot by the rumors. He was wondering if they would run into each other, he just didn't think it would be literally.

He rounded a corner a bit to fast, not really looking where he was going himself, and bam ]

[ Oh! Instinctively, Steve raises his arms to steady Raleigh, not that he needs the help. ]

You alright, there?

[ It's alright, Steve wasn't really paying attention either... but seriously is his chest made of concrete? ]

I'm fine. Just feels like I ran into a wall is all. [ It really did, even if he says it jokingly. ]

You okay?

About as fine as a wall.

[ He cracks a smile and then holds out a hand ]

Steve Rogers. Just arrived last night.

[seeherheart]

[ There's a slight hesitation there. Rogers? That rings a bell, but he could have sworn that Steve Rogers was KIA-- obviously Raleigh's not privy to the classified stuff. He'll just chalk it up to bizarre coincidence until it's proven otherwise.

Finally he grins, and takes that offered hand in the firm shake. ]
