Hey, it's okay. I wasn't exactly Miss Graceful when I did this last time, either. I won't be doing any fancy jumps, that's for sure!

[ Who knows, Prompto might even be better at it. ]

[ He might be! Once he gets into his comfort zone, he'll do pretty okay.

Prompto leaves Ann momentarily, then comes skipping back to her with two pairs of ice skating boots, one for him and the other for her, obviously! He performs a weird curtsy and presents her with the smaller pair. ]

Ahh, my lady, at last, I've found your glass slippers!

[ He's not sure why quoting Cinderella would give him any cool points.

... He also doesn't know how the actual story goes, apparently. ]

[ Honestly, that's fine, Ann only vaguely knows the stories-- but she always liked the ones with the femme fatales more.

She grins now, reaching out to take them, and then plopping herself down to work them onto her feet. ]

Here's hoping they don't break so easily, or you'll have to be carrying me the whole time.

yeah no, he's kind of freaking out internally at the sheer thought of... having to do that... ]

D-Don't worry, it'll be alright! They make these things pretty sturdy. I think.

[ Already wearing his, he stomps lightly on the ice, testing the blades. ]

Yeah-- totally fine!

[ Aaand she's up, standing a little wobbly, but so far, so good!! ]

Whoaaa-whoa-whoa!

[ He reaches out instinctively when he thinks she's about to fall, but aborts his heroic rescue when it becomes clear that she has it under control. ]

That's it, heheheh! I thought it would be a lot harder, too, but turns out it's kinda like learning to fire a gun. Scary at first, but once you get the technique... and also less... shooty...

[ why is he talking about weapons??? ]

Erm-- STEP TWO! Now... we skate!

I'm not... exactly experienced with guns...

[ WELL, KIND OF. SORT OF. NOT REAL GUNS, ANYWAY?? ]

But I think I get what you mean! Onwards!!

[ she doesn't fall on her face striking out onto the ice first thing, so maybe this is promising. ]

[ It does look promising indeed! It's enough for Prompto to not worry about being partly responsible if Ann, the model, breaks her face somehow.

He skates ahead just a little bit, doing a slow and careful spin before his momentum starts to take him back to her. ]

Wahooo! Hahaha! This is pretty fun!!

[ He slips and drops on his knee before he quickly pushes himself up again. Let's pretend that didn't happen. ]

Ta-daaa! ..M-Maybe take it a little slow.

Graceful. I'm impressed.

[ No, she's trying not to laugh. But she does offer him her hand. For future escapades. ]

Maybe I can keep you on your feet, though?

O-Oh! Hahah...

[ He catches himself staring at her hand for a few seconds too long before he happily accepts it. Even if this is for the purpose of keeping each other from falling, his hold is a gentle one. ]

My hero!

[ It's in this moment that he realizes there are a lot of actual couples around them who are also holding hands, causing Prompto to blush slightly. Even the Christmas themed songs are veering more towards the romantic side. What the heck!!! ]

[ Oh, shoot. Of all the timing, they had to hit the rink during the couples skate session apparently, and Ann shoots him a slightly sheepish grin when she realizes that it's them in a sea of doe-eyed and smitten couples. WELP. ]

I guess for now, we should just go with it? [ complete with hand squeeze, because it's adorable when he turns red. ]

We don't ha-- oh.

[ WELP, she squeezed his hand, and he's completely powerless! ]

--YUP. Goooing with it, hahaha! Why not?!

[ HE'S STILL RED. He swallows, then starts taking the lead, skating alongside Ann as he matches her pace while their hands remain joined. ]

Sssooo... if you still believed in Santa, and he were to ask you what you'd wish for Christmas, uh... what... what would you say?

[ So subtle. ]

[ So very subtle. Ann glances up at him, pace not faltering-- though she crinkles her nose after a few seconds. ]

It's too cheesy. You'll just laugh.

W-What? C'mon, I wouldn't! I love cheesy!

[ He says, kind of already laughing as he's looking back at her. At least the face she's making right now is cute, that alone is worth asking her this embarrassingly dumb question. ]

You're already laughing! [ said with a mildly pouty huff, but it's not like she thinks he's being malicious about it.

Still, she tugs on one pigtail, mulling it over... until she sighs, voice lowering. ]

So I've got this best friend... she's had a really rough year and she ended up moving away-- which is good for her, I know she needed it. So if I had to make a wish, it'd be for her to finally get all the happiness she deserves.

[ No more lecherous teachers, no more leaps that had nearly taken her life, no more suffering because she was Ann's friend. ]

O-Oh, sorry, I... huh...

[ Prompto didn't expect the response to be so sad and sincere, but at least he's not laughing either. He can't imagine anybody laughing at that, to be honest, not anyone who has a heart at least. ]

You think that's cheesy? I call that being a good friend.

[ Plus it's something Prompto can 100% relate to; knowing his own best friend has gone through some hardships. It's why Ann is likeable, although he already knew that. As he looks ahead, his grip on her hand loosens, until it drops down enough for their fingers to interlace. It's a lot more relaxed this way, and... well, they blend in with the others more easily. ]

Do you... think you'll see her again?

Huh-- y-yeah, for sure!

[ She didn't really think Prompto would laugh, but it's still a little embarrassing, admitting something so personal instead of something more playful or teasing. Most girls her age would have said "a cute boyfriend" or something, huh...

Still, there's a grateful warmth in her chest, and she easily accepts the shift in their grip, fingers curling around his. ]

There's no way I wouldn't make that happen. She's done so much for me, so... the least I could do is return the favor every now and then.

[ "A cute boyfriend" would have made him laugh! Though what he was really hoping for is a materialistic answer. "A cute hat" is easier to gift wrap!

Back to the drawing board for him, in any case. Unless... ]

Why not make it a road trip? Y'know, Iiiii can drive a car. [ Why is that so impressive?! ] Full disclosure - I only drove it into a pole once, but that's 'cause I was trying to turn up the music on the radio.

[ Hey, it's impressive enough to Ann, who... can't. Actually, she thinks Makoto is the only one with a license, but still, impressive!!

... A little concerning with the mention of a pole-crash, but maybe he just needs a second pair of eyes. ]

Are you sure? I mean, that's sweet of you, but that's kind of asking you to go waaaaay out of your way.

Nahhh, no way!

[ Yes way, it's absolutely crazy of him to offer, and she'd be even crazier to take him up on it, but he finds himself wanting to do it for her anyway. It's his way of trying to feel like he's worth something, so there might be some deep-seated selfish motivations here, too. More than that, he can just relate to her story about wanting to be there for your best friends. ]

I, uh... heh-- I-I like hanging out with you anyway...

[ Suddenly, he feels a little more aware about their intimate method of holding hands. He swallows and presses on. ]

--and your friend needs you, too, right?! Imagine how fun it would be so see each other again! I know I'd be happy if you, uh... [ he just trails off there, singing along to the song ] thiiis time I'll, lalalaaa~

[ she can't help the little grin that tugs at the corners of her mouth. For a photographer, and she's known a lot of them, Prompto sure is awkward, a lot less sure of himself than most but also a lot more willing to get to know her.

It's sweet. ]

... I'll get back to you on that. But I think probably... it wouldn't hurt, doing that with you.

[ After Makoto probably grills him thoroughly. ]

I-It won't, I promise! I won't even touch the radio. You can touch it. T-The radio, I mean!!

[ Even in non-gagtag form, this sounds weird. ]

I'll... keep you safe on the road. Like a... a really cool knight. Orrr average knight! Y'know, 'cause this knight is modest and chivalrous. Yeah!

[ He lets go of her hand and slows down his skating until he's behind her, then he firmly holds on to her shoulders with both hands. That oughta keep her upright! ]

[ Also, he just realizes that he can't see her face like this, and to others it may look like they're trying to start a conga line. ]

[ Ann laughs, wobbling from-- the force of amusement, apparently. Good thing Prompto's here for the literal clutch. ]
