And another one of these!

General musebox post is go! ... Again!

Comment here with a location in the subject line (The Thor, some alien planet, Pandora, etc). You can come up with a scenario or leave your comment blank and I'll do that for you!

SOME ALIEN PLANET... that the Thor is currently circling!

[The Planet of the Month was perhaps eerily similar to that of Pandora, but a bit less muted in its color palette. Still, the crags and the dry heat and the unmistakable atmosphere of a not-completely-civilized planet were not unfamiliar to Maya -- nor was the pesky native wildlife that just wouldn't get out of the way--

--of the rented (and a little worse for wear) hovercraft that she happened to be "piloting".

Consequently there's a loud thud and subsequent jolt as some ill-timed four-legged creature becomes... well, roadkill. Any passengers riding with Maya will definitely not have missed that much.

She 'tsks' under her breath and calls back:]

What ever happened to looking both ways before crossing the road?

[Not that there are exactly any roads here.]

[Slow down, Angel? Surely you jest! This silliness of such a notion is easily heard in her tone, which is both a little dry and a little teasing.]

And why would I do that? [Maya glances over her shoulder at Angel, looking a little amused. (Though she may notice that the hovercraft does slow down just a tiny bit. Of course that doesn't make the bumps and slight jarring any less frequent.)] Too much for you back there?

[Maya is kind enough to not point out the fact that Angel does look a little anxious as they recklessly ride through the terrain, even though it honestly isn't that difficult to tell. She turns her attention back to steering, but still speaking loud enough for her to hear.]

Maybe, but it sure would take longer for us to get there -- and besides, it doesn't seem as if the wildlife is all that friendly, anyway. So what's the loss?

And what's it like? Not having to just watch any more?

Good to hear. [The statement's a little ironic, considering a world was "traded" (or blown up) to get to this point. To arrive on the Thor. But she's not going to wax philosophical on it -- a mental shrug and a mental "whatever" and she just moves on.]

Getting the chance to see what new planets offer, every single month? I don't see what most of these people are complaining about, really.

It's something different all the time, so yeah, it's kind of exciting. [Anything, really, was more exciting than all those years holed up in a monastery, and it's often what she draws a comparison to.]

I don't know -- exploring, maybe looking for some hidden treasure buried somewhere? I just thought I'd go where this thing takes me. If you're getting bored back there, you can try your hand at driving if you want.

[We like shiny things, what can I say.]

Well, it's easy. You step on the accelerator and you use this wheel thing here-- [or the equivalent of a hovercraft wheel] --to steer. [A generalized set of directions to be sure...]

Want to try, Angel?

[Maya has faith that Angel will manage just fine... either that or there will crazy hilarity in the form of a wild veering hovercraft first, and then things will be fine.

So she stops the vehicle, steps out from the driver's seat, and motions for Angel to take her place.]

Go ahead.
lockednloaded: (yeah i got this)

[Once Maya settles into her seat, she nods.]

Ready. Hit it.

[Maya would take the time to contemplate how the laws of physics did not initially toss her out of the vehicle if she wasn't currently trying to hold onto the railing, while the hovercraft veers off sharply in one direction. A direction it continues in, so they're pretty much going in one really fast, really small circle.

Good thing she had a small lunch.]

Don't hit it so hard!

[Something she probably should have mentioned earlier, but. Well.]
lockednloaded: (you're starting to bore me)

[personal profile] lockednloaded 2012-11-08 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
[Maya can get her bearings again once the craft stops, and she realizes she's grasping tightly to the railings.]

I do what all the time? I don't remember ever doing that!

[She's pretty sure driving really fast in circles isn't something she makes a habit of. But still, she's not angry -- in fact, it's a little funny, and when she speaks her tone is steady.]

I probably should have said to push on the accelerator slowly at first. At least until you get a hang of things.
